Choosing the right interior design style can significantly transform your living space into a beautiful and cohesive environment. In this article, we explore the top five interior design styles, helping you to find the perfect design that resonates with your taste and lifestyle.
1. Modern Design
Modern design is characterized by its minimalist approach and clean lines. It often features an open floor plan with a neutral color palette dominated by whites, grays, blacks, and occasionally a pop of color. Furniture in modern design is functional yet stylish, with a focus on geometric shapes. Key materials include metal, glass, and wood, offering a sleek and contemporary feel. This style emphasizes simplicity, functionality, and the use of space effectively.
Key Features:
- Clean lines and uncluttered spaces
- Neutral color tones with occasional bold accents
- Functional and minimalist furniture
2. Scandinavian Design
Originating from Nordic countries, Scandinavian design is all about simplicity, functionality, and beauty. This style emphasizes natural light and incorporates light color palettes—think whites, light grays, and soft pastels. Wood is a key element, introducing warmth into spaces. Scandinavian design boasts a cozy and inviting atmosphere, often featuring elements such as rugs, cushions, and plenty of greenery.
Key Features:
- Bright, airy spaces with natural light
- Use of soft colors and natural materials
- Cozy, inviting textiles and decor
3. Industrial Design
Industrial design draws inspiration from warehouses and factories, embracing raw and unfinished elements. Exposed brick walls, concrete floors, and metal fixtures characterize this style. Color schemes are typically subdued, with an emphasis on dark and earthy tones. Industrial spaces often feature open layouts, with vintage furnishings that complement the rugged aesthetic.
Key Features:
- Exposed structures and raw materials
- Earthy, muted color palettes
- Vintage and repurposed furnishings
4. Bohemian Design
Bohemian or “boho” design is vibrant, eclectic, and full of personality. This style embraces free-spirited, artistic elements with a mix of textures, colors, and patterns. Layering is fundamental, incorporating various textiles such as rugs, throws, and cushions. Bohemian interiors often feature plants, vintage pieces, and handcrafted items, creating a relaxed and inviting space.
Key Features:
- Eclectic mix of colors, patterns, and textures
- Layered textiles and abundant greenery
- Vintage and handcrafted decor
5. Farmhouse Design
Farmhouse design offers a warm, rustic feel that evokes the charm of country living. This style prioritizes comfort and functionality, with an emphasis on natural materials like wood and metal. Soft, muted colors, including whites, creams, and pastels, create a cozy atmosphere. Farmhouse design often includes vintage elements, such as reclaimed wood furniture and classic designs.
Key Features:
- Rustic and charming elements
- Use of natural materials and soft color palettes
- Vintage furnishings and decor

What design style do you call it when you take a little of each design and incorporate it in your home?
My style, i think are the collector and free spirit.
Thanks for the overview, looks like I'm eclectic coastal – more shopping!
I'm torn between modern farmhouse and boho chic.

My mother-in-law still thinks everything should be matchy-matchy.
Help!
I second that!
Unique personality doesn't go well with a choice of just 5 🙂
The Scandinavian style images I got were gorgeous.
Organic with touches of boho would be my fav!
I gravitated toward the organic and bohemian.
Organic… definitely organic for me. I would love to see more about color palettes for these. It's so hard for me to choose colors! I love the calm monochromatic tones of Scandinavian style, but I'm affraid I would yearn for change because I also love all kinds and depths of colors, mainly blues (LOVE teal), yellows, peaches, pinks, and purples! I just don't understand how to make it all work together. 😢 Maybe just stick to muted tones??
My style is definitely classic. I like your tips for lighting
So excited❤❤❤ I love every videos ❤❤❤❤❤great ideas ❤❤❤❤very usefull ❤❤❤
I'm definitely in the boho camp. I've been having a hard time defining my style, and your description of boho fits me very well
80% classic, 10% English cottage (mostly in the floral department), 5% organic, 5% bohemian

I am a mixture between ORGANIC & the NEW MODERN.
Thank you for sharing Ashley!!!🤍🤍🤍
Magnificent! Great video and images!
I’m a mix of three! Classic in the living and dining room… and then organic, English cottage in the family room and kitchen. It’s like a mullet! Business in the front, party in the back! 😊
This video is great! I can now say my style is modern classic. It also gave me a much clearer picture of what to look for when shopping. ❤
What a lovely & fabulous outline! I am a mix with the exception of Boho. Two weeks ago, I just purchased my first structural piece. A bench (bold checkered black & white) which is now in front of the fireplace. I absolutely love it! It was the piece I may have been missing. I did not see that vision from the beginning. A very delightful surprise! I do lean towards, french anything, however, I have to use restraint. Darn!
Ashley what style would you say your home is? It is so beautiful.

Hmmm, modern and organic….now to combine
Definitely organic. I love touches of Japandi too. Yet still a modern vibe. That's where I get confused….how to blend them all. Lol

Orgánic and english country. Actually, all of them I like except boho and modern.
Organic Design Style is my favorite. So beautiful.❤❤❤
The interior Spaces combined with the exterior Spaces, I love it!.
The connection with the Nature, the landscapes.
The sunlight, the big windows, the organic materials. Give a peaceful feeling.💕
Beautiful designs and you explain them so well
My house has two units. One unit was built in 1944. That has dark gray walls in the living room, with pops of red. I call it “Oriental Noir.”
The other unit was built in 1973. A mid century modern. It’s got a cathedral ceiling with exposed beams. It’s all modern in there. I chose a black, white and green (with plants) color scheme, there. So, I let the space and the period it was built, direct its style.
