HomeGoods: Buy This, Not That to Make Your Home Look Expensive
Welcome to your ultimate guide for shopping at HomeGoods, where affordable meets stylish! In this "Buy This, Not That" guide, we’ll explore key items to purchase and others to skip. By making savvy choices, you’ll create a luxurious look in your home without breaking the bank.
1. Shelving Options
Buy: Look for large-scale, substantial shelving units. Opt for closed storage or floating shelves that provide an elegant look while maximizing functionality. These pieces create a refined atmosphere, unlike smaller, flimsy options that can detract from your decor.
Not That: Avoid small, decorative shelving units that appear cheap and cluttered. These will only make your space look messy and disorganized.
2. Decorative Accessories
Buy: Handmade vases and sculptural pieces add a touch of organic beauty to your home. Look for items with unique textures that offer a one-of-a-kind appeal.
Not That: Steer clear of overly ornate or busy vases that can confuse the eye and seem cluttered. Simplicity is key.
3. Coffee Table Books
Buy: Choose stylish coffee table books in various sizes and colors to enhance your space. Aim for books that reflect your personal interests, whether it’s fashion, travel, or art.
Not That: Avoid generic or overly simplistic book covers that don’t add depth or character to your decor.
4. Mirrors
Buy: Invest in large wall or floor mirrors with unique shapes or metallic finishes. Widening your space mirrors do wonders for aesthetics.
Not That: Skip plastic-framed mirrors that feel flimsy and cheap. Instead, seek out mirrors with a robust metal frame for a quality finish.
5. Bath Mats
Buy: Focus on 2×5 runner rugs instead of traditional bath mats. These create a cohesive look in your bathroom, adding elegance without sacrificing function.
Not That: Avoid small-sized mats—they can look dinky and uninviting.
6. Window Treatments
Buy: Seek out linen curtains with a pocket rod seam. These provide a luxurious, custom look that elevates your decor.
Not That: Stay away from grommet-style curtains, which often come off as store-bought and less sophisticated.
7. Rugs
Buy: Look for larger, quality rugs with texture and pattern. Brand-name rugs often found at HomeGoods can provide the upscale feel you desire.
Not That: Electrically packaged smaller rugs may be enticing for their low price, but they usually lack the high-end look and feel.
8. Furniture
Buy: Invest in swivel or glide chairs with substantial fabric which demonstrate quality and sophistication. The heftier pieces have a more luxurious appearance.
Not That: Avoid metal-base chairs, as they tend to look cheaper and less inviting.
9. Throw Pillows
Buy: Seek pillows with integrated patterns and quality fabrics for that sought-after plush look.
Not That: Stay clear of shiny, metallic materials that look overly processed and cheapen your decor.
10. Lighting
Buy: Choose lamps with white shades to distribute light evenly across your space.
Not That: Avoid dark lamp shades; these can create a gloomy atmosphere and may clash with other design elements.
By following these "Buy This, Not That" tips, you can transform your home into an elegant sanctuary, all while staying within budget. Happy shopping at HomeGoods!

…I am not an " Interior Designer "… but I've employed these ' Tips" for Decades …. using my Intuitive skills, ( Intuition) and what I find appealing, lovely, useful and will work with existing pieces …….and I'm not interested in making my home " Look Expensive ", …more so to be a Reflection of Who I Am…, My Story, my Personality…. And to be Inviting, Warm, Comfortable … and if parts of it " Look Expensive " as a Bonus …. that works.
Thank you ❤
